Summer Themed Show: "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun: Fun in the Summer Sun"

We've created a special themed show to air during July and August called 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Fun in the Summer Sun". The show features  songs about having fun with friends and enjoying the summertime. Think "Soak Up The Sun", "Get the Party Started", "Walking on Sunshine" or "Man I Feel Like A Woman". Keep in mind, this is still Women of "Substance" Radio, so these songs are not just pop "fluff" but music with something to say.

We hope you enjoy this mix of well-known and soon-to-be well-known artists. The playlist is available on our Playlist page under "Themed Shows". You won't want to miss this show that airs ALL MONTH LONG on Wed, Sat & Sun from 3-6 PM ET (noon-3 PM PT).

about Stacie rose & the double ep "alter ego"

Rose has been called a musician’s-musician who has been hailed for her super-hooky, confessional songs that effortlessly fuse pop, soul, country, & rock and stay in your head.  Critics have compared her song-writing to the likes of Rosanne Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Suzanne Vega, and Aimee Mann and her pop sensibility to artists like, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Nelly Furtado, Dido and Avril Lavigne; but have praised her for a vocal & visceral sound all her own.  Rose is consistently noted as an “artist you should know about.”

Stacie Rose earned rave reviews for her recent release SHOTGUN DAISY in 2008!  Her songs have been featured on MTV, VH1, FX, AMC, ABC, FUSE, AMERICAN AIRLINES, and ESCADA.  She recently had 2 songs on PASTE MAGAZINE’S HOPE FOR HAITI compilation, recorded an intoxicating cover of the George Harrison classic “I ME MINE” for the esteemed, cult Beatles project out of Brooklyn NY, THE BEATLES COMPLETE ON UKULELE., and has been invited numerous times to perform at the prestigious New York Songwriters Circle.

Stacie is releasing her newest, most ambitious, project, The Alter-Ego EPs on AUGUST 17, 2010. The EPs feature two saucy sides of Stacie Rose, you haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting.  Alter-Ego EP: Means to an End, produced by Jeff Allen, has a live, late 70’s/early 80’s rock vibe, influenced by Rose’s classic rock heroes. Alter-Ego EP: Raw Sugar, produced by long-time collaborator Robert L. Smith, is a dance/electro/pop affair, sure to get your hips moving, and features various other producers/programmers. The double EP features Steve Conte (New York Dolls), Jack Petruzelli, James Mastro, Jeff Lipstein, Jeff Allen, David Patterson, and Garrison Hawk, and killer production by Aaron Steinberg, Thomas Hutchings, Quixotic and David Barratt.

“I would describe the overall project as gritty & pretty, pop & pow, sugary & savory, thunder & lightening. They go together but are totally different,” said Rose.  "Throwing myself into such an ambitious project became a thing of both love and survival.  I am grateful for the role that music plays in my life--a source of joy, solace, discovery, healing and ecstasy.

Fans of Stacie Rose pledged over $5,000 to fund the Alter-Ego EP’s through Pledge Music; and percentage was donated to The Seeing Eye, in Morristown, NJ.
